INT. HYPERION LOBBY - DAY


FRED and GUNN are entering, full of the joys of diner pancakes. We see CORDELIA and WESLEY behind the counter, engaged in admin-type tasks. They look up as they see Fred and Gunn approaching.


CUT TO:


Fred's face in closeup as she opens her mouth to say 'Good morning' or whatever - we'll never know because just then


Crash! If you can imagine a distant, quiet, non-threatening crashing sound, and Fred


looks up


and the crashing continues, louder now, and a little dust falls on to Fred's face, which is still registering surprise, not alarm


and the crashing noise gets louder still, and bits of plaster are falling now; Fred's starting to look a little worried


and as a last ginormous surroundsound crash begins Fred is snatched out of frame and we


CUT TO:


A wide shot of the lobby so we can see that Gunn has grabbed Fred and thrust her aside as with a final apocalyptic WHUMPH the ceiling falls in and a figure crashes through and lands smack in the middle of the floor, on its back and with arms outstretched, and with the sudden silence we


CUT TO:


PSYCHE, her eyes closed, lying amid the ruins of the hotel roof and several floors.


A beat.


CORDELIA (OS)
Deja vu much?


END OF TEASER

ACT ONE



INT. HYPERION HOTEL FOYER - DAY

As before, except that ANGEL has appeared and is running down the stairs as Gunn helps Fred up and brushes her off, and the other two emerge from behind the counter. Cordelia is looking up at the damage, but the others are all staring at Psyche. They gather round her in a ring.

FRED
(hushed)
Is she dead?

Angel pushes away some debris, kneels down beside her.

ANGEL
She's immortal.


GUNN
What, like you, you mean?


ANGEL
No: truly immortal.


WESLEY
She can't be killed at all?

Angel has his hands on each side of Psyche's head.

ANGEL
That's the usual definition...

Meanwhile Cordelia is still looking up...until suddenly she grabs Angel's shoulders and yanks him violently backward away from Psyche. He lands, sprawling; looks up at her in surprise.

ANGEL
Cordy, what...?

CUT TO:


Psyche, in closeup. Bright sun suddenly on her face.

CORDELIA (OS)
Hole in the roof.

CUT TO:


Hole in the roof. Yup. Sunlight streaming in.


CUT TO:


INT. THE SAME - MOMENTS LATER


Psyche has been laid on one of the sofas, well away from the shaft of sunlight, and Angel, kneeling beside her once more, is unbuttoning - do the higher beings have buttons? Anyway, whatever she's wearing, he's undoing it, and exposing her chest.


CUT TO:


Cordelia, in closeup, looking a bit uncomfortable.


CUT TO:


Angel's hand on Psyche's left breast.

CORDELIA
Um...Angel?


ANGEL
Hmm?

CUT TO:


Cordelia

CORDELIA
Are you sure you should be doing that?

CUT TO:


Angel, absorbed, not paying attention.

ANGEL
I've seen it all before.


CORDELIA (OS)
WHAT?

Angel looks round and up at her, surprised.


CUT TO:


Cordelia. Rant mode.

CORDELIA
Do you know that ever since Angel Investigations was set up, every single woman who's walked through that door
(a beat)
- and the other door we had before it got blown up - has had the hots for you...

CUT TO:


Fred, looking embarrassed.


CUT TO:


Cordelia again, now in full marching-about flow.

CORDELIA
...and if it wasn't for my efforts you'd have turned evil ages ago...
(a thought)
You aren't evil, are you?


WESLEY
Cordelia, I don't think Angel meant that he...


ANGEL
Yes I did, but I can't see how this is anyone else's business...

A beat.

CORDELIA
Hallo? Perfect happiness plus you equals evil you and this is not our business why?

A beat, while everyone tries to work this one out.

ANGEL
Look, Cordelia, I'm just trying to find out what's wrong. OK?

He turns back to Psyche and puts both hands on her, closes his eyes.


A beat.

ANGEL
And there is something. Something in her heart.

CUT TO:


INT. THE SAME - LATER


Close up on MEERNA, the blue-haired mystical friend of Lorne. Psyche's POV - or it would be, if Psyche were looking at anything.

MEERNA
You've bitten off more than you can chew this time, haven't you?

Camera pulls back to show her standing with her hands on her hips looking down at Psyche, who's still lying on the sofa. Angel and co are still there too, looking on.

MEERNA
Do you know this is one of the higher beings?


WESLEY
That's why we called on you. We don't know what to do for her.


MEERNA
(ever so slightly flattered)
Well, let's see then.

She leans down, puts her hands on Psyche's chest as Angel did.

MEERNA
(concerned)
Oh boy.

She draws her palms together and raises her hands away from Psyche, and as she does we see


she's holding an arrow, a white shiny mystical-type arrow which she's pulling out of Psyche's heart. A full-length arrow that there wouldn't have been room for in real space. It lights up the whole of the lobby and makes their intent faces look unearthly.


Meerna straightens up.

MEERNA
OH boy.

She holds the arrow out to Angel. As he takes it

MEERNA
Have YOU got problems.
